Bailey Girl
You were
content to be by my side or at my feet…
Too watch
from a distance and try to please me.
You loved a
good scratch and would come back for more…
Or beg for
a walk and nose your leash by the door.
I swear you
learned English although they say dogs can’t..
“Go for a
walk?” “Potty?” and much more than that.
Every noise
scared you, even a tap….
And all 40
lbs tried to jump in my lap.
You checked
every bag when I came from the store…
You just
knew I must have bought more,
Bones and
plushy toys and all kinds of snacks…
I made sure
those things you never lacked.
You were
never much for being alone…
But you
liked the sun in the early morn.
I could
leave for an hour and upon my return…
You would
whimper and quiver like I’d been gone forever.
You endured
surgery for cancer ‘cause I couldn’t let you go…
And seemed
to recover, but didn’t know
That
despite my best effort to keep you my friend,
Father in
Heaven had a different plan.
I believe
you will watch over us still…
and that your spirit is at peace…
I love you
dear girl, my faithful friend
You are now
truly free.
